Manage Contact Subscription Status
In SmartLink, "contacts" refer to all potential and existing recipients of your emails. According to their subscription status, contacts are categorized as Subscribed, Unsubscribed, or Non-subscribed, which is directly tied to marketing compliance and sending permissions.
List of subscription statuses
Subscribed
Subscribed contacts have actively opted in to receive your marketing emails. Explicit consent from contacts can be obtained through different methods, such as CSV file imports, forms, or API data synchronization. It is essential to ensure all such operations are performed after clear and traceable user consent in order to maintain compliance.
Unsubscribed
Unsubscribed contacts have decided to opt out of receiving marketing emails. These contacts can subscribe again through any of your subscription interfaces or through the unsubscribe link in your emails.
Non-subscribed
Non-subscribed contacts have not explicitly expressed their consent to receive marketing emails, such as by checking a box on the subscription form or by confirming their subscription in the double opt-in email. As soon as a contact gives their explicit consent, their status will change from Unknown to Subscribed.
Pending
Pending subscriptions are contacts who have subscribed from an indirect source, such as via API, subscription form, or the official website, but have not yet given their confirmation in the double opt-in email. Contacts with this status will not be sent any marketing emails until they have given their consent. As soon as they have, their status will change from Pending to Subscribed.
For more information on double opt-in settings, see Automated Campaigns.
It is possible to manually adjust a contact's subscription status to improve the accuracy and conversion rate of marketing activities.
When changing the status from Unsubscribed to Subscribed, always adhere strictly to all compliance requirements. It is essential to have obtained the user's explicit consent and to also maintain a complete record of the process of obtaining their consent, to mitigate potential legal consequences.
Contact information management
You can click the email address of a contact in the contact list to enter the details page of the contact. The timeline in contact details provides more detailed log information, including:
- Record of personal information additions/changes
- Record of subscription status changes
- Campaign reach record
In addition, users with Owner or Admin permissions can manually manage contact information in contact details, including:
Permanently deleting the contact
This is generally applicable to the situation where the contact actively requests to delete personal data. After successful deletion, the system will clear all the data related to the contact.
Changing the subscription status of the contact
This is generally applicable to the situation where the contact actively requests to change the subscription status.
